Op donderdag 9 december presenteert het Podium haar nieuwste publicatie 'Working with Architectonic DNA' in het Outlook gebouw op Schiphol, in het kantoor van SADC (Schiphol Area Development Company NV).

De presentatie start om 16 uur. De avond wordt geopend door Dick van der Harst. Daarna is er een tafelgesprek tussen Mathias Lehner, Karin Christof (editor), Wim Nijenhuis (onderzoeker en auteur) en Jan Benthem (Benthem Crouwel Architecten) over zijn uitspraak over architectonisch DNA en het ontstaan van dit boek. Het geheel wordt afgesloten door een borrel.

De publicatie Working with Architectonic DNA [werken met een architectonische DNA] onderzoekt het fenomeen van het ontwerpen van architectonisch complexe projecten, die voortdurend in verandering zijn en daarom om een constante aanpassing vragen. Het vertrekpunt is de luchthaven Schiphol in Nederland, een project dat voortdurend in beweging is en waarvan het gebruik is afgestemd op veranderende vliegpatronen als gevolg van economische groei en krimp. De Nederlandse architect Jan Benthem, die talrijke ontwerpen voor Amsterdam Airport Schiphol heeft gerealiseerd, beschrijft dit type projecten als 'werken met een architectonische DNA voor projecten, die altijd, dus op elk moment van het proces af moeten zijn.'

Thursday December 9, Podium voor Architectuur will launch its newest publication 'Working with Architectonic DNA'. This book launch takes place in the Outlook building at Schiphol Airport, in the office of SADC (Schiphol Area Development Company NV).

The programme starts at 16 hrs and will be introduced by Dick van der Harst. Mathias Lehner, Karin Christof (editor), Wim Nijenhuis (onderzoeker en auteur) and Jan Benthem (Benthem Crouwel architects) will speak and discuss about the assertion of Jan Benthem about working with architectonic DNA and the production of the book. Afterwards an informal reception closes the evening.

The book explores the phenomenon of designing complex architectural projects that require continuous modification including expansion and contraction. The departure point is Schiphol Airport: a space in constant flux as air travel patterns change. Dutch architect, Jan Benthem, who has made numerous designs for the airport since the 70s, describes these projects as 'working with an architectonic DNA where projects need to be accessible at all stages of the design and construction'. Departing from this statement the publication explores links with various disciplines. Texts and interviews by architects, urban planners, philosophers, interior designers and researchers investigate this architectural phenomenon from their professional points of view. What is the essence, the conceptual basis of an 'architectonic DNA'?
