Introduction

Podium is the local architecture centre in Haarlemmermeer, a New Town around Amsterdam Airport Schiphol. Podium organizes various activities in the field of architecture, town planning and spatial planning. Podium offers all sorts of activities, for a wide audience and for different ages.
The centre organizes Lectures, Children’s workshops, Exhibitions, Architecture courses, Excursions, Educational materials, Publications and the annual Architecture prize.

Podium contributes to Exchange of knowledge in the field of architectural centres on national and international level with Excursions, Publications and Network Activities.

Attending

Charettes

Podium organizes charettes for architects, workshops from 10.00 until 22.00 hours. The topics relate to the current discussion and developments in the field of architecture, urbanism and planning in Haarlemmermeer.

Children’s Workshops

Podium organizes monthly children’s workshops. Kids get to know architecture in a creative, educational and inventive way. Under the supervision of a professional teacher, the children realize their dreams in built form. These workshops take place on Saturdays, twice a month either in Pier K Hoofddorp or in Pier K Nieuw-Vennep. The workshops are from 13.30 till 15.30. Admission (6 Euro) can be paid at the door. Please sign in for the workshops in advance.

Courses

Our courses aim at a wide audience and depart with the notion that architecture is everywhere. On the street, on the road or at work. On vacation you’ll admire en historic building of you spot a modern apartment building. Everyone has his own opinion about architecture. One person dislikes something, what another person loves. Our courses are given by architects and teachers from the Technical University Delft.

Educational material

Podium develops educational packages for schools. Target groups are children from 8 to 13 years old. See for example our educational website about bridges, www.brugsite.nl.

Excursions

Excursions are the best way for people to get in touch with architecture in a direct way and are therefore a crucial activity. During the Day of Architecture a bus excursion is held. Besides that, Podium takes care of guides for bicycle tours. There are maps available with a short description of each project. Podium also sets out tailor made tours. The destination of a custom tour can be in Haarlemmermeer but also abroad. Because Podium is the architecture centre for Schiphol, we yearly organize a flight excursion to highlights of contemporary architecture.

Exhibitions

Podium organizes exhibitions for architecture loving adults, professionals and children. Usually Podium takes care of the content and the logistic. New exhibitions are presented at Podium’s office and at our collaborating partner institutions. Podium has worked with Gallery De Meerse, Schiphol Real Estate, Pier K, the Municipality of Haarlemmermeer, the public library and the Spaarne Hospital.

Friendship

You can be friends with Podium for Architecture Haarlemmermeer and Schiphol. Friends support Podium with a small financial contribution. When you are a friend, you will get priority with every activity and you will get all the information first. Also you will receive a free copy of Podium publications. You can participate for free at the Day of Architecture. Friends will donate 30 euro’s per calendar year. It is possible to become Friends with Podium with your partner. Then you will donate 50 euro’s a year, and then both partners have free access. Friendship is continued automatically unless we are notified differently.

Lectures

Every month there are lectures and discussions. Skilled speakers will highlight a intriguing development with buildings These lectures take place on a Monday from 20.00 till 21.30 hour. You can attend the lectures for free. Please sign in if you plan to attend a lecture.

Publications

Podium publishes a number of annual architectural publications. Traditionally there is the book about the annual architecture workshop and the booklet about the work of the winner of the annual Architectural Prize. Besides that, Podium publishes architecture guides and an annual architecture calendar.
